Cass County crash injures two people

Two Dowagiac residents were injured last weekend in an accident involving a pickup and a motorcycle in Cass County’s Marcellus Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday to the area of Marcellus Highway and Finch Road in response to a personal-injury accident.

Emergency personnel was called to the scene after 21-year-old Three Rivers resident Christopher Hoeppner allegedly pulled out of a driveway onto Marcellus Highway in front of a westbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver, 28-year-old Jordan Hawkins of Marcellus and 25-year-old Olivia Hines of Dowagiac, were traveling west on Marcellus Highway when the motorcycle on which they were riding collided into Hoeppner’s pickup. They were ejected them from the motorcycle and subsequently transported to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Neither Hawkins nor Hines was wearing a helmet.
