Thelma Lego, 71

Thelma A. Lego, 71, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

She was born Jan. 14, 1938, in Decatur, Ind., a daughter of the late William and Clarice (Gilbert) Yake.

Thelma had resided her whole life in the Sturgis and Brighton, Ind., area. She was a graduate of Brighton High School with the class of 1955 and continued her education at Asbury College in Asbury, Ky., where she received her bachelor’s degree.

On Oct. 2, 1960, she married Edwin Jay Lego at the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church in Howe, Ind. He died July 25, 2005.

She retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following more than 20 years of employment in the credit department. She had also been employed by Sturgis Newport Business Forms and Bisels Five and Dime, both in Sturgis.

Thelma was a member of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, crafts and collecting Precious Moments figurines. She and Jay had traveled extensively throughout the United States and to many foreign countries.
She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Lego of Sturgis; two sons, Ronald (Lisa) Lego and Jon (Sherry) Lego both of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Luke Terrell, Mark Sweatt and David Sweatt; three great- grandchildren; a sister, Gretchen (Robert) Fink of Sturgis; a brother, Ronald (Sandra) Yake of Sturgis; special friend and caregiver Carol Moore of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband and a sister, Mahilda Notestine, preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Thelma A. Lego will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sturgis Wesleyan Church. The Rev. Ross Gerber and Nathan Barnell will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
