Motorcyclist injured in crash

A Sturgis man was injured after losing control of the motorcycle he was driving this week in Sherman Township.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies were called shortly before 8 p.m. Monday to Shimmel Road, in an area near Storms Road.

Investigators said a 29-year-old man was traveling south on a motorcycle at what appears to be a high rate of speed.

The driver attempted to pass multiple vehicles, at which time another southbound vehicle made a left-hand turn into the entrance to Glen Oaks Community College.

The motorcycle driver left the roadway to avoid a collision and lost control in the ditch.

Authorities said the driver was conscious but showed signs of a head injury. He was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for further treatment.

Authorities said speed is a factor and that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
