Local schools dealing with COVID-19 cases

School districts in White Pigeon and Colon reported one confirmed and two probable COVID-19 cases in their respective district buildings.

White Pigeon superintendent Jon Keyer said one person at Central Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. The positive reading was reported Wednesday.

Keyer said the student was last in the building Thursday. He added it appears the individual contracted the virus from a family member.

As of Wednesday, school will plan to continue as usual for all staff and students, Keyer said.

Meanwhile, Colon Community Schools Superintendent Penny Brockway informed students and families that on Wednesday, the school was notified that two students at Colon Elementary School have been diagnosed as a probable positive for COVID-19.

Protocol for probable cases is the same as confirmed cases and the two will be quarantined under the guidance of the local health department for two weeks.
