As you get Out and About during this time of the year, you can’t help but notice the number of garage and yard sales. Barbara Ruggles out on Buckhorn Road just had her final yard sale this past weekend. She has had a yard sale every year for the last 48 years. This year she made the decision that this was going to be her final year. It’s something she must really enjoy doing if she has done it for so long. It’s amazing how much fun you can have looking over the treasures on display.

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a garage. I think I’m part of the minority who actually keeps my car in the garage. So many use their garage to store most of their “stuff”. If you actually do keep a vehicle in your garage and want to do your best to properly care for it, here are some helpful suggestions:
Hang a tennis ball with a string from the garage ceiling to mark exactly where the car should stop when it comes into the garage. Hang the ball so that when it just touches the middle of the windshield, the car is exactly where it should be.
Install a smoke alarm and a fire extinguisher in your garage. It is just as vulnerable to fire as the rooms in your house – more so if you keep gasoline or other combustibles in the garage.
Before taking a broom to a concrete garage floor, sprinkle the floor with slightly damp coffee grounds. The grounds will keep the dust down while you sweep.
Clean oil and grease left by the car by covering the spots with cat litter. Leave it for a while to absorb the oil, then sweep it up. Sprinkle the remaining stains with dishwashing detergent, let it stand for a few minutes, then scrub it off with boiling water.
