A Cass County resident was injured after a tree fell on him in Calvin Township.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called around 6 p.m. Sunday to the 18000 block of Brownsville Road.
Investigators said 40-year-old RoMell Dungey was removing trees from his property when one fell on top of him. Authorities said his 14-year-old son removed the tree then went to find help.
Fire and EMS personnel extricated Dungey from the woods and he was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Penn Fire, Central Cass Fire, Medflight and Pride Care EMS assisted with the situation.
Ok hi, this is Kayden, Ro’Mell’s son. I am actually 13. What happened was he was bulldozing trees with a Vermeer Mini Skid Steer. He pushed a tree, which proceeded to fall to the right, where another tree was uprooted and leaning on a dead tree. The tree that was pushed moved the uprooted tree to the right, which made it fall off of a tree that was already snapped in half. The tree that fell off of the tree that was snapped in half, which he was under. It hit him and knocked him onto his back and landed on his chest. I ran over, pushed the tree off of him and then ran for help.
