Betty V. Wegner, 71, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Sept. 22, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family following a gallant hard-fought battle with cancer.
She was born March 30, 1938, in Mendon, Mich., a daughter to Ralph and Winnie (Smith) Wells.
Betty had resided in the Bronson and Sturgis area her whole life. On May 11, 1957, she married Donald Wegner at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
Following 21 years of employment, she retired from Oak Products in Sturgis.
Betty was a member of the same Euchre club for over 40 years. She enjoyed fishing, flowers and motorcycle rides with her husband. Betty was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and daughter and was happiest when she was with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Don; two daughters, Debi (Tom) Taube of Charlotte, NC and Angie (Tim) Blanchard of Sturgis; three sons, Rob (Tami) Wegner of Vicksburg, Brian (Karen) Wegner of St. Louis, Missouri and Ashlee (Tina) Wegner stationed in San Diego, Calif. with the U.S. Marine Corp; 15 grandchildren, Tim Taube, Scott Taube, Casandra Shaffer, Brandon Wegner, Bryce Wegner, Amanda Carr, Michael Carr, Rachel McKnight, Johanna Bogater, Claire McMillin, Matthew Wegner, Mary Rose Wegner, Jonathan Wegner, Jacob Wegner and Ashtin Wegner; five great-grandchildren, Sam McKnight, Luke McKnight and Elizabeth McKnight, Camie McMillin and Mia McMillin; mother, Winnie Wells of Avon Park, Fla.; one sister, Patti (John) Jeffro of Avon Park, Fla.; two brothers, Bill (Billie) Wells of Sturgis and Herb (Ruby) Wells of Three Rivers and many nieces and nephews.
Her son, Michael Wegner; grandson, Aiden Wegner; and father, Ralph Wells preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-3284. Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty V. Wegner will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. Revs. Michael Klafehn and Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
