Jack Brooks, 82

Jack C. Brooks, age 82, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 20, 2021, at his home.
He was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Florida, a son of the late Nyal and Maxine (Clanin) Brooks.
Jack resided in Sturgis since 1986. His early life was spent in the Huntington, Ind., area, where he was a graduate of Rock Creek High School with the class of 1956. While in high school, he excelled in athletics, especially basketball. Jack furthered his education at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana where he earned a Bachelor Degree.
Most of Jack’s working life was involved in adult developmental community programs. He retired from ARCH Workshop in Sturgis following several dedicated years of service as the executive director.
Jack was a past member of Sturgis Kiwanis Club and he enjoyed waterskiing and political science. He very much enjoyed discovering the mountains of Wyoming, where he was an avid backpacker. He also took multi-day horse pack trips to fish and hunt in the high mountain wilderness.
In March 1967, he married Sandra Barto in Angola. She survives, along with a daughter, Dana Brooks Burns of Buffalo, Wyo.; a son, Morgan Brooks of Sturgis; two granddaughters, Halle Brooks, age 15, and Kylie Brooks, age 13, both of Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Steve Brooks.
In accordance with his wishes, his body has been gifted to University Of Michigan School of Medicine in Ann Arbor. No services are planned at this time.
Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with arrangements.
