Larry Gillespie, 72

Larry E. “Gilly” Gillespie, age 72, of Howe, Indiana died at Parkview LaGrange Hospital on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Larry succumbed to acute leukemia after a courageous two-year battle with the disease.

Born on May 23, 1948, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana to Elmo and Florence (Wheat) Gillespie, Larry lived his early childhood in Albany, Indiana, then LaGrange, Indiana, graduating from Lakeland High School. After residing in Sturgis for a number of years, Larry moved to the family property in Howe, Indiana, in 1999 following his mother’s death.

On October 1, 2005, Larry married the love of his life Corinne Hanson at their home in Howe. She survives him along with her two sons, Corey Harley of Fort Wayne, and Craig (Amy) Harley of Milwaukee, WI and four granddaughters.

Also, surviving is his sister Judy Price of Los Angeles, CA; nieces Tisha Reed of Elkhart, Carrie Reed of LaGrange; and a son from a previous relationship.

Preceding Larry in death are his parents, sister Inez Reed, and niece Julia Smith.

Larry was an avid Harley guy whose love of riding was what fed his soul along with the time with his loving wife tending to their five-acre homestead. He was an over the road truck driver and because of this he had friends everywhere and was known in his group as the Social Butterfly.

According to his wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of Larry’s life will take place later this year.

Arrangements by Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange.
