John Cossairt, 85

John Howard Cossairt, age 85, of Burr Oak, passed away Monday evening, March 22, 2021 at his home.
He was born December 15, 1935 in Colon, son of the late Thurman and Pauline (Bargo) Cossairt.
John resided in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area most of his life. On October 4, 1958 he married Patsy Lou Rhode at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
Most of John’s working life was involved in the flooring and carpet installation industry retiring from Parlin’s Home Furnishings in Sturgis. He had also worked as a police officer for the Sturgis Police Department.
John was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and Snyder-Lewis-Welty Post #454 American Legion in Colon. For over 25 years he was very active in Boy Scouts and he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, gardening, home improvement projects and he loved his chickens and time spent with his family especially his grandchildren.
John was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by one son: Doug (Kathy) Cossairt of Howe, Indiana; one daughter: Diana (Gene Farris) Skinner of Barton City; five grandchildren: Kaydee Schneider of Howe, Indiana, James (Kari) Cossairt of Howe, Indiana, Rachelle Skinner of Flushing, Ryan Skinner of Flushing and Riley Farris of Barton City; four great grandchildren: Elly Cossairt, Gunnyar Perkins, Kooper Cossairt and McKenzie Cossairt; half-brother: Joe Cossairt of Maryland; three half-sisters: Linda Andrews, Shirley Overholt and Cindy Patterson all of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two infant sons: Dennis and Baby Boy Cossairt and several brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Due to COVID-19 restrictions no more than 25 people are allowed in the funeral home at one time and masks are required. Funeral services celebrating the life of John Cossairt will begin at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Snyder-Lewis-Welty Post #454 American Legion and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
