County commission consider hiring freeze exceptions

St. Joseph County commissioners appear in favor of recommending an exception to the hiring freeze, as the sheriff’s department is seeking a typist/clerk. The position became open when Jennifer Meyer was recently promoted to administrative assistant.

Its pay is about $57,000 a year, including benefits.

The matter was discussed during Wednesday’s executive committee meeting.

Meanwhile, another exception to the hiring freeze was put on the agenda for next week’s meeting. The deputy probate register position, which also handles all personal-protective orders for all four courts, is in need of being filled.

The opening is the result of Amanda Himes moving to a position in district court.

In other action, county administrator Teresa Doehring announced the county’s animal control department recently received a $6,000 gift for spay/neuter services. She said the money was given anonymously from a corporation.
