Members of the Colon Area Chamber of Commerce are moving forward with plans to celebrate the Fourth of July.
During their monthly meeting Thursday, members of the chamber board agreed to place donation jars throughout the village, as contributions will help offset the expense of hired attractions to be featured in the village’s Independence Day parade.
Board members said Michigan Department of Transportation has approved the closure of a portion of M-86 starting July 3 until after the parade July 4.
Meanwhile, the village is seeking nominations for Colon’s “Citizens of the Year,” and committee members are working on securing a grand marshal. In addition, chamber board members indicated a need for volunteers to help oversee a variety of duties is greater than ever.
