Charles Harley, 86

Charles Reedy Harley, age 86, of Marcellus, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, in the comfort of his home.

Charles was born in Knottsville, Kentucky on May 21, 1935, the son of Thomas Callie Harley and Mary Catherine Fulkerson.

On June 22, 1954 in Kentucky Charles married the love of his life Barbara Jane Christian, who survives him in death after 67 years of marriage.

Charles spent his life working as a 3rd generation sawmiller. His deepest passion in life was pulling horses and in 2020 he was proudly inducted into the Michigan Draft Horse Pullers Hall of Fame. Charles was the type of man who never met a stranger he did not like.

Charles is survived by his wife Barbara “Jane” Harley; children Vickie (Gary) Gray of Falls of Rough, Kentucky, Tonja (John) Moore of Marcellus, Charles “Bruce” (Deborah) Harley of Three Rivers; 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 1 step granddaughter; 9 great- grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mary Catherine Harley; sisters Cecil Meserve, Ernie Mae Logsdon, Stella Morris, Hattie Henning, Catherine “Red” Bickett; and brothers Otto, Sam, Calvin, and Thomas Harley.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to Kindred Hospice, 625 Kenmoor Ave SE #115, Grand Rapids or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.materralstonfuneralhome.com.
