Passenger traffic increases at AZO

Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport reports continued growth in passenger traffic during the month of May.

A year-by-year comparison shows growth of 788 percent compared to the COVID-decimated travel month of May 2020.

Craig Williams, airport director, said the airport handled 14,088 passengers last month, up from 12,370 the month before.

However, Williams said, the May 2021 count is down more than 54 percent compared to May 2019 numbers. For the year to date, AZO passenger traffic is down 61 percent compared to the same month in 2019.

Meanwhile, aircraft load factor – how full an airplane is – was at 80 percent last month. That statistic was at 26 percent a year ago and 76 percent in May 2019, Williams said.
