Expansion and more jobs at American Axle in TR

State Sen. Kim LaSata issued a statement Tuesday centering on an announcement concerning a considerable expansion at Three Rivers-based American Axle.

According to the Michigan Strategic Fund, American Axle has been granted a five-year State Essential Services Assessment Exemption for its $40.6 million expansion project.

The tax exemption, worth an estimated $470,000, will help the company complete the project that is projected to create 100 jobs at its Three Rivers facility.

LaSata said in addition to the creation of 100 jobs, which will help support local workers and boost the economy, the project will help modernize a facility that is vital to one of Michigan’s more important industries.

The MSF also announced the city of Three Rivers was awarded $2 million in Community Development Block Grant funds to assist with adding necessary machinery and equipment at the project.

The Three Rivers site was chosen for the project over the company’s facility in Mexico.
