May’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County increased by one percent from April.
The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget was released last week. It showed St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate rose from 4.6 percent in April to 5.6 percent in May.
The rate was 18.8 percent a year earlier, as May 2020 marked the second full month impacted by COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Cass County experienced an increase from 4.3 percent in April to 4.9 percent last month.
Branch County’s one-month unemployment rate went from 4.5 percent in April to 5 percent in May.
Michigan’s unemployment rate for May was 5.2 percent, up from 4.6 percent in April.
