Local leaders tour storm damage

State Sen. Kim LaSata last week joined local leaders and emergency management officials on a tour of St. Joseph County, as they continue work to determine the scope of damage and where resources could be used most efficiently.

LaSata drafted a request for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to declare a state of emergency for the area. The governor has since granted that request, making additional financial resources available from the state to help area families recover.

LaSata acknowledged many people are still working to clean up their homes and properties. Several, she said, still have a way to go.

LaSata was escorted by Steve Wolf, Sherman Township supervisor, and Erin Goff, emergency management/homeland security director for the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.
