Carolyn Ward, 100

Carolyn Chiyoko Ward, age 100, passed away Saturday morning, September 4, 2021 at Dear Country Adult Foster Care in Burr Oak.
She was born August 7, 1921 in Yokohama, Japan daughter of the late Yozo and Chitose Kanayama.
Mrs. Ward came to the United States in 1951 and resided in Sturgis since 1953.
On March 2, 1949 she married Raymond Ellsworth Ward in Yokohama, Japan. He preceded her in death November 26, 1975.
Carolyn retired from Power Magnetics in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment and she had also worked at the American Laundry in Sturgis.
She was a very active and dedicated member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where she was a member of the Altar Guild, Lutheran Ladies Aid, took part in many Bible studies and volunteered her time in any way she possibly could.
She enjoyed reading, classical and country music, knitting and crocheting and crafts. Her cooking skills will be forever missed by those who were fortunate to be invited to her table.
She is survived by one son: Ray Ward of Sturgis; six grandchildren: Phillip (Heather) Ward of Texas, Korinna (Jeff) Bennit of Oregon, Michelle Sharick of Sturgis, Amanda (Uriah) Hoard of Sturgis, Anthony (Melissa) Fanning of Portage and Christopher (Mina) Ward of Illinois; 16 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; twin brothers: Ichiro and Jiro and sisters: Emiko and Chiyako and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law: Mary Frances Ward and sister: Shizuko
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Carolyn Chiyoko Ward will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Ward’s memory consider the Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091.
