Local church celebrates anniversary

Firm Foundation Ministries is celebrating a milestone this weekend, as the Centreville-based church on Sunday will acknowledge the 25th anniversary of its founding.

Senior pastor Don Smith said fanfare will be minimal this weekend but a larger salute to its silver anniversary will take place at the end of the month.

Smith said Wednesday was the anniversary date of the first service, which was conducted at the FOP lodge east of Centreville. The church met there during its first year, including 46 parishioners at its first service. That grew to more than 125, forcing it to relocate to the Seventh-Day Adventist church, also east of town on M-86.

The 250-seat sanctuary at its current location was built and services started in October 2006.

Sunday’s service will feature a visit from founding pastor Jay Ulrich and his wife, Andrea. The main speaker will be Art Good, who oversaw the leadership team that encouraged the planting of the church.

A two-day celebration will take place the weekend of Oct. 30.
