The name of a man who died in a single-vehicle crash Monday in Park Township has been released by law-enforcement officials.
Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said Douglas Mowat, 51, a Three Rivers resident, died after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a number of trees.
Investigators said Mowat was driving south on U.S. 131 shortly after 2 p.m. when his Chevy Blazer left the road in an area between Heimbach and Moorepark roads.
Witnesses told authorities they observed the vehicle being driven at a high rate of speed as it attempted to pass a combine before losing control and leaving the road.
Mowat died at the scene of the crash, Lillywhite said.
