Man arrested after fleeing police

A Burr Oak man was arrested last week after attempting to flee from police in Sturgis.

According to the Sturgis Police Department, officers were called shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday in response to a vehicle suspected of being used as a get-away car in a burglary at a local business earlier in the day.

As officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he drove away at a high rate of speed, heading east on East Chicago Road.

Authorities followed the vehicle into the village of Burr Oak before the suspect’s vehicle crashed at the intersection of U.S. 12 and Sweet Lake Road. He fled the scene on foot but was captured a short time later.

The 19-year-old suspect is charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing authorities.
