Sandra Carene Bauman, age 78, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 20, 2021 at Thurston Woods Villa in Sturgis.
She was born February 17, 1943 in Muskegon, daughter of the late Stanley and Betty (Johnson) Pelkey.
Sandy resided in Sturgis since 1966 coming from Muskegon where she was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School with the class of 1961.
On October 28, 1967 she married Howard John Bauman in Three Rivers. He preceded her in death May 16, 2017.
Sandy retired from the General Telephone Company following 29 years of dedicated employment.
She enjoyed bowling, traveling to casinos, horseback riding, camping, fishing and following all types of auto racing and she was an avid loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers. Sandy had a true love for her dogs.
She is survived by two brothers: Jack (Betty) Pelkey of Venice, Florida and Richard (Lois) Pelkey of St. Cloud, Florida; best friend Dolores (Ed) Stemen of Sturgis and their sons: Pete, Paul and Marty and their families and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: David Pelkey.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Sandra Bauman will take place at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis in the summer of 2022. Private burial of the remains will take place at the Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville.
Sandy’s request was in lieu of flowers memorial donations be directed to the Holy Angels Food Pantry, 402 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 or the Kalamazoo Humane Society, 2272 River St, Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
