Damian Barrera Carrillo was born at 7:58 a.m. Jan. 3, making him the first baby of the new year birthed at Three Rivers Health.
Damian was born to Maria Carrillo Cruz and Oscar Barrera of Sturgis. He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and measured 19 and 1⁄4 inches. Damian was the sixth boy to be born to the couple.
Siblings Jose Antonio, Gabino, Justin, Oscar and Jeremy range in age from 7 to 19.
While the family had been hoping they might finally get a baby girl, they’re happy everything turned out well.
Along with the honor of being the hospital’s New Year Baby, the family received a cart full of gifts for the family that the couple also didn’t expect. Marci Kohlhoff, RN and clinical charge nurse, said the department spends several months collecting items from hospital staff and the community to give to the New Year’s baby and family.
