Steven Jacob “Cornfed” Rice, age 34, of Sturgis, passed away Friday afternoon, January 14, 2022 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids.
He was born July 22, 1987 in Tucson, Arizona son of Dwight Russell and JoAnn (Adams) Rice.
Cornfed resided in Sturgis since 1992 coming from Tucson.
Steven was a self-employed entrepreneur. He enjoyed hunting, riding, four wheelers, sledding and farming. Most will remember him best by seeing him driving in his truck. What some may not know is the reason for most of that driving was going from friend to friend to check in on them and see how they were doing.
He is survived by his mother: JoAnn Rice of Sturgis; brother: Brian (Telesha) Rice of Sturgis; sister: Tracey Rice of Kalamazoo; two nieces: Kaylee and Sophie; several aunts uncles and cousins and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Dwight Rice, January 11, 2022.
In accordance with family wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and honor the life of Steven J. “Cornfed” Rice will take place from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, January 23rd at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Pretty Prairie Cemetery in rural Howe, Indiana. The Rev. George Cleverley of the Sturgis Church of Christ will officiate. The wearing of masks will be required during the visitation and graveside service.
