A man from California was arrested over the weekend after authorities investigated the theft of a firearm.
Sturgis police said officers received a call around 8:15 a.m. Saturday regarding an incident in the area of East Chicago Road and Franks Avenue. The situation involved larceny of a firearm and a subsequent report of shots fired.
Officers located the suspect’s vehicle, which was being driven at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the vehicle into LaGrange County, where the suspect exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
With the aid of a state police K-9 unit from Michigan, the suspect was found less than an hour later.
The 37-year-old suspect had a number of warrants as well as criminal activity related to Saturday’s incident.
