River cleanup dates released

The 12th season of the St. Joseph County Conservation District’s river cleanup program has a slate of five events set for this summer.

Carolyn Grace, agency executive director and administrator of the cleanups, said the first will take place in May, while the final is in August.

The schedule is:

*May 21, St. Joseph River, Liquid Therapy in Three Rivers to Withers Road.

*June 4, Nottawa Creek and St. Joseph River, Rawson’s King Mill County Park in Leonidas Township to M-66.

*June 18, Prairie River, Canoe Park in Centreville to Hoshel Road in Lockport Township.

*July 23, Rocky River, Null Road in Flowerfield Township to Hank’s Tavern on the River in Three Rivers.

*Aug. 29, Portage River, public access site at Portage Lake in Mendon Township to Parkville Road in Park Township.

All events start at 9:30. Grace said water, snacks and transportation to and from start points and end points are provided.

Prospective volunteers are asked to call Grace ahead of time so an appropriate number of kayaks or canoes can be secured. Participants are welcome to use their own watercraft, if they prefer.
