A longtime county employee is ending his career on a high note later this month.
Dennis Brandenburg, who has served as director of the county’s E-911 Central Dispatch center since October 2014, plans to retire April 28.
Combined with his time as a member of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and subsequent years as a dispatcher, Brandenburg has been with the county 44 years.
Brandenburg was a deputy with the sheriff’s department and retired as a sergeant following a 26-year career at the agency. Brandenburg then served 10 years as a dispatcher on the floor fielding 9-1-1 calls.
Brandenburg will spend the final weeks of his employment training his successor, Stacey Bower. A Colon resident, Bower has been with the agency 14 years. She’s been a supervisor 10 of those 14 years, he noted.
A Battle Creek native and Sturgis resident, Brandenburg will be recognized during a public open house 3:30 to 7 p.m. April 27 at Covered Bridge Farm County Park.
