Firefighters from the Constantine Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire inside an attached garage earlier this week in Constantine Township.
The department was summoned shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday to the 15000 block of North Northpark Road.
A firefighter who lives in the area and a state trooper were first to arrive.
They noticed the vehicle’s engine area was on fire, spreading into the interior of the vehicle and into the rafters of the garage. The fire was quickly knocked down with the trooper’s fire extinguisher and a garden hose.
Firefighters finished extinguishing the blaze.
The fire was contained to the garage and did not reach the house. The vehicle is a total loss but the garage and its contents only sustained heat, water and smoke damage. The interior of the house also suffered some light smoke damage in the kitchen area from the opened door to the garage.
Cause of the fire is not yet known but appears to have originated in the vehicle’s engine area.
