Cass County sheriff’s deputies responded to a fatal crash earlier this week in LaGrange Township.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said the department was notified shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday about a two-vehicle crash on Dailey Road, north of Pokagon Highway.
Investigators said two vehicles had struck head-on. The driver of one vehicle was identified as Curtis Mengel, 28, of Warsaw, Ind. The other driver was Robert Sass, 67, of LaPorte, Ind.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by fire personnel. Both gentlemen suffered serious injuries and were transported for medical care. Sass, however, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Behnke said both drivers were wearing seat belts. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash, Behnke said.
