Michigan coronavirus case increase

New coronavirus cases increased 5.6 percent in Michigan in the week ending May 22, as the state added nearly 30,000 cases. The previous week had more than 27,000 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

St. Joseph County reported 52 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 55 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 13,864 cases and 209 deaths.

Within Michigan, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Washtenaw, Keweenaw and Mackinac counties.

Meanwhile, cases fell in 28 counties, with the steepest declines in Clinton, Calhoun and Washtenaw counties.
