Fatal crash in Constantine Township

Sheriff Mark A. Lillywhite, reports that Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal one vehicle crash on Youngs Prairie Road near Harder Road in Constantine Township. The crash occurred Thursday morning at about 4:30 A.M. It was determined that a 20-year-old male from Dowagiac was southbound on Youngs Prairie in a Dodge passenger car. The vehicle crossed the centerline and went off the left side of the roadway in a curve near Harder Road. The vehicle then veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the crash scene. His name has not been released. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Excessive speed does appear to be a factor in the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Constantine Fire Department and the SEPSA Fire Authority.
