Many of us are familiar with the many symptoms of Type II Diabetes, such as increased thirst and more than normal urination. There are a few lesser-known signs of the disease that can emerge before the typical symptoms. Here are five symptoms that aren’t that well known:
Blurred vision. If you need to have your eyeglass prescription changed more than normal, you may want to get tested for diabetes If you do have diabetes, you should get your eyes checked at least once a year. If left untreated, diabetes damages blood vessels in the back of the eye. This can lead to cataracts, glaucoma and even blindness.
A cut that is slow to heal. Diabetes may be the reason that a cut or scrape takes longer than normal to heal. The extra sugar in your blood, if you’re diabetic, may cause slow healing.
Mood changes. If you find you’re becoming more irritable, or if your mood changes more often, this could be an indicator of diabetes. Diabetes also causes fatigue, which affects your mood.
Unexplained weight loss. There aren’t many people who get upset because they’ve lost weight. Losing a few pounds is a goal of most of us. However, if you’ve lost more than the normal amount of weight at anytime, without making any changes in your diet or fitness routine, diabetes might be the cause.
Skin tags. It’s normal to have a few skin tags on parts of your body, These little fleshy growths can be found on your neck, armpits and groin area. Skin tags are generally harmless, but studies have shown that there is an increased risk of diabetes in those that have them. If these skin tags become a nuisance, I would recommend seeing a dermatologist.
There aren’t many Americans who don’t enjoy watching or being in a parade. I’m not talking about a “protest parade”, but rather the old fashioned parade with marching bands and floats. We’ve had all of our parades for this year in Three Rivers, but there are still a few more in St. Joe County to participate in or just stand on the curb and wave as it passes by.
White Pigeon has a parade this Friday, July 8. It forms in the high school parking lot and steps off at 7 PM.
Centreville kicks off their Covered Bridge Days on Saturday, July 16. Line-up time is 5 PM at the fairgrounds, near the main entrance and steps off at 6 PM.
Burr Oak’s Heritage Days has their parade on Saturday, July 30. The parade forms at the intersection of Third Street and Highland Street. Step-off time is 11 AM.
River Fest in Mendon is Saturday, August 20. This parade will start at the fire department on Burr Oak Street, with a step-off time of high noon.
A word of advise to all bicyclists out there. As a biking enthusiast you are responsible for obeying all traffic signals, especially stop signs. Law enforcement can cite you for cruising through a stop sign. Also, bike riding is not permitted on the sidewalk in the downtown business district.
See you Out and About!
