Jean E. (Penzotti) Swindell, age 86, of Lincoln, MA, and former longtime resident of Concord, MA, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family and strengthened by her deep faith.
Jean was born on March 18, 1936 to Louise and Stanley Penzotti in Monroe, Michigan. She was the valedictorian of Three Rivers High School and completed her bachelor’s degree at Albion College and University of Michigan. After raising her four children, she completed a master’s degree in education at Leslie College. She went on to teach as a reading specialist with kindness and patience, finding joy in each new reader who emerged.
Jean was an active community volunteer, particularly in service to her Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord.
Jean made friends easily and kept them for life. Book club, golf, bridge and other card games were some favorite activities. Lively conversation and laughter surrounded her. Above all, Jean was passionate about family and adored her grandchildren, taking an avid interest in the details of their lives such as names of friends and pets, details of school and jobs, interest in their musical tastes. No topic was off limits. She put all else aside when they called or visited and was fully present.
Jean’s warmth, generosity, grace, and beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew her and by a world that needs more of what Jean brought to it.
Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years Murray J. Swindell, her children Murray Jr., Sharon (Jeff), Steven (Shelley), and Chris (Kate), her siblings Sally Boeschenstein, Stan Penzotti, and Jim Penzotti, her grandchildren Ben (Nkule), Brian (Lisa), Kali, Sam, Jessie, Ty, and Will, and her great-granddaughter Shannon.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jean’s life during a memorial service on Tuesday, August 30 at 11 am in Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord Center. For those who wish to attend the service remotely, please access the zoom live stream link below. Private burial will be held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
