Storms cause power outages

Strong storms blew through St. Joseph County on Monday, causing downed limbs and power outages across the area.

Weather officials said the line of storms hit St. Joseph County around 4 p.m., elevating a severe thunderstorm watch into a warning. Wind gusts and heavy rain were reported throughout the area.

Following the storms, 400 of 9,290 Consumers Energy customers in St. Joseph County reported a loss of electricity. The largest area was 215 customers without power in a line from Sherman to White Pigeon townships, west and south of Klinger Lake.

Indiana Michigan Power reported scattered outages from Klinger Lake to White Pigeon, and Constantine to Mottville, as well as in Three Rivers. Most outages were limited to pockets of residential properties.

The city of Sturgis on Monday afternoon reported crews were working to resolve two outages in its service area, including one north of town.
