Jerome “Jerry” John Yearling, age 75, of Three Rivers, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born August 10, 1947 in Three Rivers, the son of John and Doris (Hagen) Yearling, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1965.
Jerry served his country in the United States Army, then worked as a laborer at Continental Can, Armstrong, Hydra-Matic and American Axle.
Jerry was an avid collector of antique slot machines and gumball machines. He loved old cars and during his life he rebuilt a 1929 Model A, 1935 Ford Pickup, 1936 Oldsmobile and a 1960 Metropolitan Nash.
Jerry loved fishing in Canada with his father and friends catching Walleye. He could fix anything that was broken and even if it wasn’t. Cooking and family gatherings were something he looked forward to and was quick to tell many jokes and laugh with everyone. Jerry was born and raised in Three Rivers and traveled to several countries and would go to Las Vegas to play the penny slots and go to Freemont Street.
Remaining to cherish his memory his longtime companion of 25 years, Susan Harper-Grieger; his daughters, Christine Hamlin and Jennifer Dentler (Mike Dentler); sisters, Sandra French, Suzanne Reed, and Laurie Smith (Bob Smith); grandchildren, Kiera Sandoval, Brandon Dentler (Mackenzie Dentler), and Delaney Dentler; nieces, Sana Gaffney (Will Gaffney) and Sabrina Lear (Matt Lear); nephew, Erik Smith (Katherine Smith); as well as many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Yearling; nephew, Stephen French; aunt, Frances Hagen.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Moritz and Deacon Ed Smallcombe officiating. Interment will be in Prairie River Cemetery, with a luncheon following. Anyone with a classic car is encouraged to bring it in memory of Jerry.
