Lydia “Irene” Troyer age 93, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday evening September 3, 2022 at Thurston Woods Villa in Sturgis.
She was born September 23, 1928 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Eli and Polly A. (Miller) Overholt.
Irene resided in Sturgis since 2004 coming from Centreville.
On September 19, 1948 she married Clarence James Troyer at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Burr Oak. He preceded her in death October 6, 2004.
Irene enjoyed working alongside Clarence as his escort driver while he delivered mobile homes. She also worked as a translator at the Nottawa School for several years and she did housecleaning.
She was a longtime member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Burr Oak. Irene loved quiet walks and volunteering her time at the Amigo Center in Sturgis and going on mission trips that took her to Canada, Alaska, South America and Israel. She was an avid reader and a gifted quilter, embroider and gardener.
She is survived by three daughters: Louellen Westover of Sturgis, Betty (Mark) Thiemann of Red Oak, Texas and Beverly Wilson of Portage; three sons: Delmer (Debra) Troyer of Centreville, Jerry (Donna) Troyer of Centreville and Eugene (Norma) Troyer of Sturgis; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and expecting her 26th in October and many nieces and nephews including a special nephew: Sterling (Connie) Neff of Sturgis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law: Gene Westover; sister: Kathryn Mast and three brothers: John Overholt, Kenneth Overholt and Clarence Overholt.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 7th, at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 29525 Findley Rd. in Burr Oak. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 8th, at the Locust Grove Cemetery. The memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Lydia Irene Troyer will begin at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church. Pastor Bill Beck will officiate.
