Dewitt L. Grove, age 82, of Sturgis, passed away late Tuesday evening September 6, 2022 at Skaggs Assisted Living in Burr Oak.
He was born September 1, 1940 in Sturgis, son of the late Lawrence E. and Mary E. (Littlefield Johnston) Grove.
Dewitt resided in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area most of his life and was a graduate of Burr Oak High School with the class of 1958.
On August 22, 1987 he married Janet L. Walling at the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church in Howe, Indiana. She preceded him in death December 24, 2018.
Dewitt was a lifelong farmer and owned and operated Shadow Valley Short Horn Farms.
Dewitt loved dancing especially at the Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater.
He is survived by three daughters: Brenda Bennett of Bronson, Lori (David) Winchell and Amy (Duane) Butcher of Sturgis; nine grandchildren: Laura Hoover, David (Tammy) Sessions, Katie (Gary) Edgington, David Butcher, Grace (Simon) Ridgewell, Brandylynn Bennett, Ben Winchell, Coty Bennett and LeeAnn Winchell; five great grandchildren: Halle Edgington, Reese Edgington, Zayden Butcher, Zayleigh Butcher and Michael Javier Butcher-Lara; three sisters: Kathy Yoder of Kalamazoo, Marilyn Grove of Sturgis and Julie Grove of Kentucky; brother: Daniel Grove of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter: Amanda Grove; one son: Michael Grove; grandson: Paul Sessions and sons-in-law: Rob Sessions and Warren Bennett
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dewitt L. Grove will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Roberts of the Bronson Church of Christ will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
