St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved funding to all 31 organizations that sought a portion of $1 million issued to the county as part of the federal government’s American Rescue Plan Act.
During their monthly board meeting Tuesday, commissioners approved: $150,000 to Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County for the county’s housing initiative; $120,000 to St. Joseph County Human Services Commission for a full-time housing coordinator; $62,500 to St. Joseph County United Way for the Navigate Prepared school-safety program; $39,200 apiece to the city of Sturgis, Burr Oak, Florence, Mendon and Sturgis townships for various purposes, and fire departments in Leonidas and Mendon, and Tri-Township Fire Department.
In addition, $35,000 was granted to Nottawa Township for ambulance subsidy and to the village of Centreville for road projects.
Colon Community Fire and Rescue received $23,500 for education and recruitment, while $20,400 was allocated to Mottville Township for Riverside Drive and community of Mottville infrastructure projects.
Also, there were 16 recipients of $15,000 each. They include Colon Township Library, Nottawa Township for Nottawa Stone School restoration and Daughters of the American Revolution for restoration of the Old Centreville Cemetery.
