Rich Scott, 71

Richard U. Scott, Jr., age 71, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 27, 2022 at his home.

He was born February 12, 1951 in Detroit, son of the late Richard and Orpha (Cochrane) Scott.

Rich resided in Sturgis since 1981, coming from California.

On June 12, 1971 he married Mary Carpenter at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Rich was a skilled bus mechanic and had worked for five local school districts, Sturgis, Three Rivers, Colon, Centreville, and Burr Oak. He attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids for five years studying his trade.

He was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and member of Knights of Columbus Deacon Jerry Mix Council #2508.

He enjoyed biking, camping, building cars, and loved time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Mary; children: Amy (David) Goff of Augusta and Richard (Sarah) Scott, III of Sturgis; grandchildren: Dilan Goff, Jacob Goff Richard Scott, IV and Kenli Scott; brothers: Chester (Ruth) Scott, Bradford (Martha) Scott, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Scott and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 Tuesday, November 1st, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be prayed together at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, Nov. 2nd at the Holy Angles Catholic Church in Sturgis followed by the Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Richard Scott, Jr. at 10:30 A.M., the Rev. Father Andrew Raczkowski and the Rev. Father Raul Gomez celebrants. Private interment will take place at the Oak Lawn Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.
