One of two local high school football teams survived the latest round of playoffs over the weekend.
In Division 2, eight-man competition, Mendon hosted Morrice on Saturday and came away with a 30-14 win. The Hornets will head to the Superior Dome in Marquette for a state-final showdown against Upper Peninsula juggernaut Powers North Central. It defeated Marion, 36-12, also on Saturday.
Mendon is now 10-2, while Powers North Central is 12-0.
The championship game starts at 2 p.m.
St. Joseph County’s other representative in the weekend’s playoffs was White Pigeon. In Division 8 action, the Chiefs fell, 38-26, to Ottawa Lake Whiteford.
White Pigeon ends its season with an 8-4 record.
