Carol Pursel, 73

Carol Lorraine Pursel, age 73, of Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 6, 2022 at her home.

She was born November 16, 1949 in Sturgis, only daughter of the late Chris C. and Rebecca S. (Schwartz) Wickey.

Carol resided in Sturgis since 1969 coming from Colon where she was a graduate of Colon High School with the class of 1968.

On July 4, 1969 she married Paul R. Pursel at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Burr Oak.

Carol retired from the Sturgis Hospital following 27 years of dedicated employment in the Dietary Department and Laboratory. Prior to joining the hospital she worked as a lunch lady at the Sturgis Public Schools for several years.

She had a strong faith and love for her Savior Jesus Christ and attended Grace Fellowship, Locust Grove Mennonite Church and the Garage Church.

She was a longtime member of Weight Watchers. Carol enjoyed the Cardio Drumming class at the Commission on Aging, crocheting, ceramics, walking and had walked the Mackinac Bridge several times. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved Bible study and her dogs.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 53 years: Paul; daughters: Sonya Lorraine (Michael) Bracco of Sturgis and Kristie Lynn (Mat) Householder of North Canton, Ohio; grandson: Cole Alexander (Rosio) Pursel; granddaughters: Jolee Lorraine Bracco and Carlie Rebecca Bracco; great grandchildren: Silas, Oliver and Percy; three brothers: Steven (Shakuntala) Wickey of Punta Gordo, Florida, Chris Eugene (Anna) Wickey, III of Leonidas and Jeffery Lin (Sharon) Wickey of Sturgis; sister-in-law: Brenda Wickey of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Michael Dale Wickey and nephews: Andrew Wickey and Joshua Wickey.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 on Friday, Dec. 9th at the Grace Fellowship, 300 Timothy St. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Carol L. Pursel will immediately follow the visitation at 4:00 Friday. Carol’s brothers: Chris and Jeffery Wickey will officiate. In accordance with her wishes cremation will follow the services. Private burial of the remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
