Two house fires within 12 hours of one another in Sturgis over the weekend are under investigation by the Sturgis Department of Public Safety’s fire marshal.
Sturgis public safety officials reported that just before midnight Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 200 block of Grove Street. Police units reaching the scene reported smoke and fire coming from the rear windows of a home. The home, unoccupied at the time, sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
Just before noon Sunday, firefighters were dispatched to the 1000 block of Meadowlane Drive. Fire crews arriving at the scene reported moderate smoke coming from the roofline of the home. The home, also unoccupied at the time of the fire, sustained extensive smoke damage.
There were no injuries at either fire.
