Fatal shooting incident in Sturgis

A 32-year-old man died after a shooting at a Sturgis business.

Authorities said Jeremy Lampaert died after he was shot around 6 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot at Country Hearth Inn and Suites. The business is located at the southeast corner of Fawn River and South Centreville roads.

Witnesses said they believe the shooting was the result of an argument with an acquaintance.

Lampaert was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where he subsequently died, according to a media release.

One of the motel owners, Tony Maree, said neither the victim nor the suspect were registered or renting at the motel.

Meanwhile, Maree said video from surveillance cameras was turned over to Sturgis Police.

Social media named a man identified as the suspect but there was no confirmation on whether he was in custody.
