Dorothy M. Sowers, age 97, formerly of Georgetown, Ohio, died Saturday, January 14, 2023 in Sturgis. She was born in Georgetown, Ohio on April 10, 1925 the daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Grace (Stansberry) Butts. Following her graduation from Mt. Orb High School she was married to Lewis Carl Sowers on June 15, 1943. Dorothy was a sales clerk at the J.C Penney store for many years. She enjoyed travelling, mystery trips, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching sports, and was an Ohio State Buckeye fan.
Dorothy is survived by three children, Lois (Don) Hiemstra, Melody Sowers, and Terry (Mary) Sowers; four grandchildren, Derek (Brenda) Hiemstra, Jennifer Hiemstra, Trever Sowers, and Daniel Sowers; two great-granddaughters, Taylor (Tyler) Miller and Brecklyn Hiemstra; and by a great-great-granddaughter, Kinsley Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis in 1997; and by two brothers, Ray Butt and Eugene Butt.
Dorothy will be buried next to her husband in Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown, Ohio. A memorial service is being planned for later.
