Betty Lou Hess died on her 87th birthday, Saturday, January 28th, 2023.
She was born in Clinchmore, Tennessee on January 28, 1936 the daughter of Carl and Marie (Maiden) Troutman.
On January 30, 1966, in Kalamazoo, she married Raymond LeRoy Hess who preceded her in death.
Betty had been residing at “White Oaks Assisted Living” for the past several years.
Before residing at White Oaks, Betty had spent more than 40 years living on a small farm just outside of Marcellus. On the farm she enjoyed gardening, long walks talking with the Lord, and walking her dog.
Much of Betty’s life was spent serving in the church where her husband Raymond Hess served as minister until shortly before his passing in 2011.
Most of Betty’s adult life was spent being a wife and mother, however later in life she did return to school to pursue a nursing degree, a dream she had for a long time.
Betty is survived by daughters; Diane Spencer, Janet Perry of Decatur, Debra McBride of Decatur, sons; Dean Hess of Kalamazoo, Norman (Marge) Harvey of Morley, Brian (Stephanie) Hicks of Kalamazoo; daughter-in-law Julie Hicks of Marcellus, many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by husband Raymond L Hess, sons; Gary Hicks, Ron Hess and Raymond Hess, granddaughters; Venessa Hicks, Ginger Hicks and Erica Hicks; son-in-law Max McBride.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 Saturday, February 4 at Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, 52780 M-40 North, Marcellus. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Saturday, February 4 with Pastor Scott Wiles of Trinity Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
