Vernon G. Wallick, Jr. age 94, of Sturgis, passed away Friday afternoon, February 3, 2023 at his home.
He was born August 7, 1928 in Sturgis, son of the late Vernon and Marjorie (King) Wallick, Sr.
Vern was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1947.
On April 7, 1951 he married Elayta Jane Creamer in Sturgis. She preceded him in death December 9, 2005.
Vern was proud to have served his country for two years in the U.S. Army with the 412th Construction Engineers during the Korean War.
He was a building contractor for 35 years; he and his crew built many fine homes in the Sturgis and Klinger Lake area.
Vern enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR, NFL Football, working on the computer, and loved time spent with his family.
He is survived by his five daughters: Jo Ann Wallick, Cheryl Harker and Susan Wallick, all of Sturgis, Patricia (Frank) Bernardi of Mattawan and Marilyn (Kelly) Murphy of Santa Fe, New Mexico; five grandchildren: Max (Aya) Harker, Bridget (Wilson) Singleton, Bryan (Mayra) Murphy, Matt Murphy and Chloe Hunt; two sisters: Beverly Fuller of Sun City, Florida and Dixie Lynn DeHaan of Kalamazoo and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and grandson: Ryan Murphy; son-in-law: Lee Harker; brothers: Robert Wallick, Melvin Wallick, Richard Wallick and James Wallick and sister: Patricia VanSkike.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service and burial of the remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
