Sheriff Lillywhite arrested following crash

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite was arrested over the weekend on an alcohol-related offense in Schoolcraft Township.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office officials said the 47-year-old Flowerfield Township resident was arrested after he was involved in a two-vehicle crash shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 131, south of West XY Avenue.

Investigators said Lillywhite was headed south when his vehicle rear-ended another SUV, pushing both vehicles off the roadway. Troopers at the scene noticed Lillywhite allegedly showed signs of impairment and was subject to a battery of sobriety tests.

He was jailed on charges of operating while intoxicated and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Sheriff’s officials said Lillywhite was released from the county jail around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The investigation is being handled by Michigan State Police.

  1. Scandals with the County prosecutor, a township supervisor, now the sheriff. What’s up SJC?

  2. Too bad people like Mr. Lilywhite and Mr. McDonough didn’t get the help they needed. This is an awful way to end a career.

  3. We should give thanks that he didn’t severely injure anyone. This guy has had troubling behavior for years. The good ole boy network didn’t stretch out past county lines I guess…I’ll be interested to see how biased our judicial system is towards the thin blue line, lol. Anyone want to bet on how much jail time he does?
