Sturgis – Andrew Kuk named City Manager

Sturgis Interim City Manager Andrew Kuk last week accepted an offer from the city commission to become city manager on a permanent basis.

Kuk has served for more than 15 years as assistant city manager, assuming the interim primary role in January after former manager Mike Hughes accepted a new management position at a local manufacturing company.

The city commission announced last month Kuk was one of two finalists, both of whom were to be interviewed Feb. 27. However, the other finalist withdrew his candidacy earlier that day because he had been offered a position elsewhere.

The candidate forum continued that evening, with Kuk being the sole finalist interviewed.

Mayor Jeff Mullins said the commission decided to forgo the planned second round of interviews.

City staff will work with attorney TJ Reed to bring a final hiring contract for consideration later in the month.

Meanwhile, at the end of the city commission meeting, Travis Klinger announced his resignation from the commission, effective April 26. He has served as second precinct commissioner since July 2018.
