Vicksburg votes on new building project

A historical vote cast last week by members of the Vicksburg Village Council cleared the way for construction to begin on a new municipal building.

Council members on March 20 made official the $2.5 million project as a result of their unanimous endorsement.

The vote capped a multi-year effort to ensure the project would be funded without taking out a loan to cover the cost.

Construction is slated to start the week of May 1 and conclude in February 2024.

Village manager Jim Mallery said the village was strategic about saving for the cost of constructing a new village office. He said village taxpayers will save between $1.5 million and $2 million over the course of a typical 30-year bond because the project is being paid with cash.

The new village office will be built on the west side of Richardson Street, just north of the Vicksburg water tower.
