Outside incident puts Sturgis schools under shelter-in-place order

Sturgis Public Schools ordered a shelter-in-place order for a period of time Wednesday afternoon.

District officials said the order was made as a recommendation by the Sturgis Police Department. The order affected schools on the north and east sides of the district, including Sturgis Middle School.

The measure was taken due to a non-school-related dispute taking place near the intersection of Lafayette and Big Hill roads.

A stay-in-place order means learning resumes with no additional precautions necessary by staff and students.
